The Islamic Social Services Association-USA (ISSA-USA) is saddened by the
tragic death of Aasiya Hassan and unequivocally condemns this and any other act
of violence in the home. May Allah have mercy on her. May Allah comfort her
friends, family, colleagues, and the many that will miss her deeply.
ISSA is proud to join Muslim community leaders and advocates who continue
speaking out against domestic violence. ISSA continues to network with secular,
other faith, and Muslim professionals and volunteers to prevent and intervene in
domestic violence. We must make it clear to everyone that abuse against women,
in families, or against anyone is not acceptable, and is against Islamic
teachings and the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. “We must
take a stand at the mosques and Islamic centers, in the meetings and conferences
and our homes that family violence and domestic abuse is not condoned, “not in
our homes”,” states Aneesah Nadir, Ph.D, President of ISSA – USA.
ISSA commends past, current and future action on this issue. We encourage
everyone to be a part of the solution, and to stand firmly for justice.
To this end ISSA –USA recommends the following steps be taken to establish,
expand, or sustain the efforts to combat domestic violence:
