Muslims of Manitoba
The concept for these billboards came out of several comprehensive focus group sessions Islamic Social Services held with key members of various communities and sectors, including media, government, faith based, university faculty, students and business. Our goal was to gather a diverse group of individuals, pool our collective intellectual resources, and brainstorm creative ways in which we could highlight the contributions of the Muslims of Manitoba while also communicating that Muslims are active citizens who not only belong but are important to the future of this province.
The billboards you see below are going up throughout Winnipeg, and are the first component of the public awareness campaign we designed with the support and participation of our fellow citizens and funding by Manitoba Labour and Immigration, through funding received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada's Welcoming Communities Initiative. While the project focused on Muslims, its ideas and concepts are the product of a profoundly multicultural meeting of minds. You could say that this campaign is in that sense a fully Manitoban and Canadian experience. It is our hope that this will assist in making Manitoba's communities more welcoming to our new immigrants by providing information about the positive contributions Muslims have made to Manitoba and our nation.
